Oprah Gets Two New Dogs for Her Birthday!

Oprah sure knows how to treat herself — she celebrated her 56th birthday on Jan. 29 with two new family members, 14-week-old springer spaniel siblings Sunny and Lauren!

Introducing them to her studio audience, the daytime doyenne said, "I did decide, though, to get myself a little birthday gift this year. Actually, I thought I'd get myself two," she said. "I want you to meet my two new babies."

And babies make five for Oprah, who has long been a loud and proud mom to her furry loved ones. She told her audience that Sunny and Lauren were the first springer spaniels in her brood.

The pups came from Chicago's PAWS, a no-kill shelter where she also met Sadie, a blonde cocker spaniel she adopted last year. She asked the shelter for help finding the springer spaniels. "They just arrived in time for my birthday," Oprah said. "They could have been euthanized if they weren't adopted. Can you believe that? And now they're gonna go home with me."

The world's luckiest dogs not only found a fabulous new home, but they also got special gifts to celebrate Oprah's birthday and their homecoming — sparkly crystal pink collars!

American Idol' guest judges vs. regular judges

Are the guest judges this season ready to rumble or is there some editing trickery at hand? On Tuesday night, we had Kara DioGuardi and Katy Perry "downright catty," as host Ryan Seacrest referred to their behavior.

Last night, Neil Patrick Harris took on Simon Cowell in a "showdown." Again, those are Seacrest's words. Real? Or editing magic?

In any case, it's fun to watch. As if Harris needed more public support, the triple-threat performer was not shy about disagreeing with Cowell or calling him out.

A few examples:

To one contestant, Harris said: "I thought you were great!" To which Cowell replied: "Got absolutely nothing out of that audition, I'm afraid."

Then Harris told one contestant: "I found it really boring!" And Simon retorted: "A bit rude."

A funny montage of the two of them ensued with Cowell rolling his eyes after a contestant told Harris that she loves him. Did he really? Or was that cut from another moment in the long hot Dallas day?

"I'm scared to disagree with you," Harris told Simon at another point. "Geez, Louise, invite a guest judge on..." The rest, unfortunately for us, was inaudible.

As far as DioGuardi and Perry were concerned, Perry at one point threatened to throw Coke in DioGuardi's face and DioGuardi in one instance cried: "We used to be friends!"

During a phone interview with Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Wednesday, DioGuardi said she thought it was all "really funny" and she was surprised that "people actually think I was upset about that."

One person who didn't buy it was Avril Lavigne, who also guest-judged on Tuesday night and was in Seacrest's studio during the phone call.

Taylor Swift & Kanye West To Team Up

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Kanye West will have the chance to let Taylor Swift finish on Monday.
A source has exclusively confirmed to Access Hollywood that the two musicians - who faced off in an infamous incident at last year's MTV Video Music Awards -- will be among those participating in Quincy Jones' remake of the 1985 charity anthem, "We Are The World," at a recording session the day after the Grammys.

Celine Dion, Wyclef Jean, Miley Cyrus and Sugarland will also join the all-star production, the source told Access.
Quincy, himself, recently spoke out on the re-recording to E! Online, stating, "It's the 25th anniversary and it's perfect timing...It's not an accident, man. That's God. It will be 'We Are The World' for Haiti."

The 1985 track, recorded to provide humanitarian aid to Africa, was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and also featured performances by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner and Diana Ross, among others.
The news of a possible remake was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter's Showbiz 411 earlier this month.

According to E!, other potential performers on the track include Jennifer Hudson, Will Smith, Jason Mraz, Sheryl Crow, Mya and Justin Bieber, though Quincy said it's still in the works.

"I want to get a final list before I put it out," Quincy said.
And with Michael Jackson in mind, Quincy told the site he plans to discuss his relationship with the late King of Pop in a CNN special, though he is not participating in the planned Grammy tribute to the singer.
A number of musicians have contributed to Haiti relief already, with the "Hope For Haiti Now" digital album hitting No. 1 on the Billboard charts this week - the first digital-only compilation to do so.

Rihanna Going to Grammys Alone

Rihanna says she won't be bringing baseball player Matt Kemp to Sunday's Grammys.
"I'm going to the Grammys alone, as always!" she said Thursday on 104.3 MY FM's Valentine in the Morning show in Los Angeles. "Even when I was in a relationship, I always have gone alone."

She then blurted out, "I'm still single, if that's what you really want to ask!"
What about those photos of her and Kemp, 25, frolicking in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico?
The singer, 21, played coy. "It was a blast!" she said of the trip.

As for the Grammys, she said she is "excited."
She is nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay-Z and Kanye West for the hit "Run This Town."

"This was actually the first piece of music we did since the last Grammys," she said. "It's exciting that it's nominated."
Added Rihanna, "We cannot wait. We hope we bring home the bacon, but if not, it's great that it was nominated."

Rihanna's appearance at the Feb. 8, 2009 Grammy Awards was cancelled last-minute, following a violent incident with then-boyfriend Chris Brown. Brown later pleaded guilty to felony assault, and was sentenced to five years of probation.

If Tiger Woods is a sex addict, the treatment will be long and intense

Hello, I'm Tiger Woods and I'm a sex addict.
Those might be the toughest words Woods ever had to say, assuming, of course, he stood up and said them at a clinic in Mississippi.

That's also assuming Woods is currently residing at the Pine Grove Behavioural Health and Addiction Services clinic in Hattiesburg, Miss., though photos taken by a certain tabloid suggest it to be true.
If so, the world's greatest golfer is under the care of a superstar in his own field, sexual addiction treatment pioneer Patrick Carnes.

Unfortunately for Woods, greatness on the greens doesn't count in group therapy. Unlike golf, he has hardly any way of controlling what goes on.
It begins the same way for all. You can't be treated until you acknowledge there's a problem.
"I don't know if he can stand up and say it," said celebrity shrink Dr. Drew Pinsky, who hosted a VH1 sexual addiction reality show. "But it's a key component of these things."

For now, the frantic hype over where Woods is has begun to subside, if only because the consensus is that he indeed is behind guarded gates. The paparazzi have, for the most part, left Hattiesburg, driven out by a new fence encircling the clinic and the fact the money shot has already been taken.
Desperate times reportedly drove Woods to a place he never would have imagined.

It's easy to see why. There's no driving range, no chipping green to work on the short game. So far, no one has spotted Woods at the nearby athletic club where patients sometimes pump a little iron.
And if Woods thought preparing for the Masters was tough, he's likely now spending long days filled with lectures, group sessions and the ever-present 12-step program every patient must conquer. Patients must dress a certain way, address each other a certain way and, most importantly, can never touch another patient without permission.

Cellphones are left at home.
"These kind of programs are very structured," said Maureen Canning, a clinical consultant for sexual compulsive programs at the Meadows treatment facility in Arizona. "It's basically a 12-hour day every day, plus homework."
Treatment centres like the Meadows and Pine Grove are places where people end up only when the consequences are so painful they have no choice. For some it's divorce, while for others it's a lost job, jail or even disease.

JON BON JOVI FEELS 18

JON BON JOVI struggles to believe he's nearing 50 - because he still feels like a teenager.
The Living On A Prayer hitmaker, 47, regularly treats his receding hairline so he doesn't end up bald and often laments on what will happen to Bon Jovi as he ages.

And the star admits he's unsure whether he will continue with his career in to his 60s, like Rolling Stones rocker Mick Jagger.

He tells Germany's Reader's Digest magazine, "Let me tell you, I am so worried. I look at guys like Sting and think, 'Well, he's cool about losing his hair,' but I'm already losing a bit and I'm so aware of it. Someone told me that you have to regularly massage your scalp so I do that all the time. You look like a jerk but it's got to be worth a shot.

"I find it hard to believe I'm 47 already, because I still feel like 18. I don't plan on being the next Mick Jagger and to keep on going till my late 60s. But at the moment I don't see a reason why I should stop."

Intruder arrested at Susan Boyle's house

LONDON - A British newspaper says singing sensation Susan Boyle was surprised by an intruder as she returned from recording a charity single for Haiti.

The Sun tabloid says Boyle, who shot to stardom on the back of her appearance on "Britain's Got Talent" last spring, ran into the man as she returned to her home in the small Scottish village of Blackburn.
Local police did not directly confirm the report, but when asked about Boyle they said that they were called to Blackburn Tuesday night "following reports of a disturbance."

Police said Wednesday that the unidentified man was detained and but has since been released. A representative for the singer could not immediately be reached.

Charlie Sheen's wife out of hospital

LOS ANGELES - Charlie Sheen's wife, Brooke, has left a hospital after a week of treatment for an infection after oral surgery.

Her lawyer, Yale Galanter, says she was released Monday night with orders to rest for the next week.
He says the star of the TV sitcom "Two And A Half Men" visited his wife in the hospital but now that she is out, the court order keeping them from contacting each other remains in full effect.

The Sheens have a Feb. 8 court date in Aspen in the aftermath of a domestic violence incident that brought police to their Colorado home on Christmas Day.
Galanter says they will ask for modification of the no-contact order. Sheen is also set for arraignment that day on domestic violence charges.

'Avatar' Officially Overtakes 'Titanic' For Global Box Office Record

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- It's official - "Avatar" is the new king of the world... or at least, the worldwide box office.
On Monday, the James Cameron-directed film passed Cameron's own "Titanic" as the highest grossing film of all-time, taking in $1.859 billion globally - after only 37 days in theaters.

"Titanic," released in 1997, held the previous record with $1.843 billion.

"We are deeply gratified that so many millions of people around the globe have embraced 'Avatar,'" Twentieth Century Fox - the studio behind the project -- said in a statement on Tuesday. "Its success results from the efforts of literally thousands of people, who, over the course of several years, worked to bring James Cameron's vision of Pandora to life. The themes of protecting the environment, respecting life, and yearning for a peaceful planet have united moviegoers worldwide. We're very proud of, and grateful to, James Cameron, his amazing and dedicated team, and all the many people at Fox, who worked so long and so hard to achieve this milestone."

"Avatar," which won the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Drama earlier this month, has been number one at the box office for six straight weeks since its release on December 18, 2009.
It also received a Best Picture nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and is expected to do the same when Oscar nominations are annouced on February 2.
Fans of the film have flocked to theaters since "Avatar's" release, especially the 3-D showings, which have brought in $1.35 billion of the film's total gross.

"I never thought I would live to see the day when 'Titanic's' record would fall, but not even 12 years later, here we are talking about it - and thanks to James Cameron, again," Access Hollywood's Scott "Movie" Mantz said.
However, Mantz did offer one caveat for "Avatar's" stunning success.
"To be fair, you've got to look at the ticket prices - these prices are so much more than they were for 'Titanic,' especially for the 3-D movies - and especially for a 3d movie in IMAX," he added. "And it's not like 'Up In The Air' or 'Spider-Man 3' made this much with a regular ticket pirce, so when all the dust settles, it's only fair to have that in the back of your mind."

And as for where "Avatar" will end up when its box office run comes to an end?
"It's going to gross at least $2.2 billion by the time it's over," Mantz predicted.

Dad of six Brad Pitt buys bachelor cave

BRAD Pitt has bought a bachelor pad to help him sort out his split from Angelina Jolie.
The 46-year-old Ocean's Eleven actor secretly spent $US1.1 million ($1.2 million) on the house, complete with a cave, in the Hollywood Hills.

"The house oozes character," a source said.
"Brad has had his eye on it for some time but he decided now was the right time to buy because he wanted a place to call his own.

"He needs somewhere quiet that doesn't have memories of Angie where he can be alone and think about what he does next."
Built in 1920$US2.1 million, the property has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a bar area. The cave is built into the foundations.
It was reported yesterday that Pitt's mother Jane had stepped in to try to save his relationship with Jolie.

Jane Pitt plans to use the skills she learnt as a family counsellor when she meets the 34-year-old actress in Los Angeles next week.

The 70-year-old has apparently become close to Jolie thanks to their joint work in setting up a cancer centre.
But she has always favoured her son's ex-wife, actress Jennifer Aniston, 40.
Pitt and Jolie are already believed to have enlisted lawyers to negotiate the division of their $US332 ($370 million) million fortune and custody of their children.

But a family source said: "Brad is desperately trying to cling on to the wreckage of the relationship as he is still very much in love with Angelina and believes they can make it work.
"Jane wants what is best for her son and grandchildren and Angie has agreed to meet her. She has stuck at her own marriage and worked with families for 30 years trying to keep them together."

Diddy Buys Son $360,000 Maybach for 16th Birthday

Talk about a sweet 16.
For his 16th birthday, Diddy gave his son Justin Dior Combs a brand-new silver Maybach (price tag: $360,000).
The teen received the wheels at a lavish bash Saturday night at M2 Ultralounge club in NYC. (Among the guests: Jersey Shore stars Paul "Pauly D" Delvecchio, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and rapper Lil' Kim.)

Diddy, 40, also gave his son a $10,000 check to open a bank account. (For the record, Justin is donating it all to Haiti relief.)
"I'm just ecstatic right now," Justin told UsMagazine.com at his party, which will be featured on an upcoming episode of MTV's My Super Sweet 16. "Words can't even describe how I feel. I'm so blessed and thankful for all of this."

Diddy said his son's elaborate bash is in stark contrast to how he celebrated his 16th birthday back in the day.

"I don't think I even had a party!" Diddy told Us. "I think I had a cake -- and that was it!"
But Diddy said he was happy to open his wallet for Justin (whose mother is Diddy's ex, Misa Hylton-Brim).

Diddy told Us he's so happy how his son "has grown and matured ... how well-behaved he is; how respectful of a kid he is. It just makes me proud."

Josh Duhamel: Renewing Vows With Fergie

Josh Duhamel still can't stop thinking about his vow renewal ceremony with Fergie.

"It was a great day," he told UsMagazine.com of the experience with just the two of them and a minister outside Santa Barbara, California, on Jan. 6.

How did he keep the vow renewal a surprise from his wife?
"I just didn't tell her!" the actor, 37, said.
The couple -- who first said "I Do" in front of hundreds of guests in Malibu on Jan. 10, 2009 -- had to have the renewal a few days shy of their one-year anniversary because they weren't able to be together on the actual day, something that is common for the two busy stars.

"I'll see her in a couple of days in New York," he told Us at the Youth Run 4 Haiti event that he organized in Santa Monica on Saturday. "She's going with me to Utah for Sundance and then we are going to fly back for the premiere of When in Rome next week."

Even when they are apart, Fergie, 34, does what she can to support her man.
"She wants to be here so bad," he told Us of his fundraiser with the American Red Cross. "She's lodged a big contribution to it... She helped me get the word out by speaking about it and helping me with some connections."

Johnny Depp no more, claims website

The year 2009 has seen many celebrity-death rumours and the 2010 too began with the demise of the 'Sexiest Man Alive', Johnny Depp.

Actor Johnny Depp, star of The Pirates of The Caribbean died in a fatal car accident on March 25, 2004. Something is out place here? Yes! The news is a hoax. The dateline is incorrect and the web site that presented it, created a spurious web page of CNN to post it.

Yet the rumours of Depp's death clouded the Internet and news of this fatal accident tweeted and fans mourned his death on many networking sites. But so much for logic… who was acting in the 2006 flicks The Pirates… if Depp died in 2004?

According to reports, a website angelfire.com made a fake web page of CNN News that reveals that Johnny Depp is dead. As per the fraud website "Johnny Depp's car was found alongside a road outside Bordeaux, France, with the guard rail embedded deep inside the car." Images of car wreckage were also posted with the news.

The website claimed that CNN's Melissa Gray and Harris Whitback wrote this report - but there are many obvious clues that they didn't. It may be noted that the dateline of fraud web page was March 25, 2004. Also, right after it said 'alcohol' caused the incident, there was a story below about British explorers who escaped from caves in Mexico, which nowhere linked to the story above!

Now, truth be told Depp did not die in a car accident … he is alive and kicking! The news about Depp's death are mere rumours. God knows what will happen to the web site thated post this fraud? But it has got its share of clicks for a day.

Will Brad Pitt return to Jennifer Aniston after break up with Angelian Jolie

PERHAPS the most telling sign that things were beyond repair for the world's most famous showbiz couple came last Friday night.

Brad Pitt attended the internationally publicised celebrity telethon to raise funds for Haiti - with his former wife Jennifer Aniston.

Angelina Jolie is notoriously prickly about Aniston, and Pitt has been seen at the same event as his ex-wife only once before - last year's Oscars; and then he had Angelina at his side.
Until now, Jolie always seemed to have had the upper hand in the famous love triangle that has so fascinated the public.

But she has never got over the fact that Pitt's family, and the public at large, has always preferred Aniston to her.
Her jealousy about Aniston, 40, has always been hard for Pitt to fathom - particularly as Jolie is still close to both her ex-husbands.

As for Aniston, she has struggled to find lasting romance since her marriage broke up, and has often admitted she still loves Pitt.
Only a year ago she spoke of her hurt when Jolie confirmed what had long been suspected - their affair started before Aniston had split from Pitt.

Late last year, Pitt and Jolie had a furious row over her jealousy - and according to one magazine Jolie physically attacked him when he admitted he had been in contact with his ex-wife.
He has furiously denied allegations that he has actually spent time with Aniston, but numerous sources say she has been a shoulder for him to cry on as his relationship with Jolie has crumbled.

But Pitt being seen with Aniston is far from the only clue to an imminent split.
You have only to look at Pitt and Jolie to see how this is affecting them both.

YouTube Takes a Small Step Into the Film Rental Market

YouTube made its long-awaited entry on Wednesday into the business of online movie rentals. But do not expect to be able to stream to your PC the latest Hollywood blockbuster or even a flick from a studio’s dusty catalog of classics. YouTube, which is owned by Google, is introducing its rental service with just five movies, all from independent filmmakers.

By comparison, Netflix gives its customers the choice of thousands of films, and most cable operators offer their customers large catalogs of on-demand films. More movies will come to the YouTube service later, but the company did not say when or what films it may offer.

Still, YouTube’s decision to dip its toes in online rentals represents a significant, if expected, shift for the online video site. YouTube has thrived by offering an eclectic collection of free video clips and earns most of its revenue from advertising. YouTube already offers some older, full-length movies on its site free.
Last summer, YouTube held discussions with major studios, including Lionsgate Entertainment, Sony and Warner Brothers, in an attempt to obtain newer offerings for a planned rental service. In the fall, YouTube conducted a test of the rental service with some content from studios, but the test was available only to Google employees, according to two people with knowledge of the test who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

YouTube declined to confirm the talks with studios or the test.
A studio executive, who also could not speak publicly, said that Hollywood was always concerned about cannibalizing existing distribution deals. But the executive said that his company would be willing to make some movies available for rental on YouTube on terms similar to those available to services like Apple’s iTunes, Netflix or cable operators.

Some analysts have questioned whether Hollywood movies would appeal to most of the audience at YouTube, which is better known for its broad selection of short clips.
YouTube is unveiling the rental service in conjunction with the start of the Sundance Film Festival. All five films offered for rent on YouTube are part of the festival this year or were shown at the event last year.

“YouTube had a very close relationship with the independent film community since we launched,” said Sara Pollack, entertainment market manager for YouTube. Ms. Pollack said that the number of people watching videos online has grown quickly and that YouTube wanted “to offer a way for filmmakers to connect with these audiences.”
Ms. Pollack said that only a tiny fraction of the films submitted at Sundance were able to find some form of commercial distribution, and that YouTube would provide a new outlet for independent filmmakers.

Letterman Vs. Leno Renewed

With Conan O'Brien's exit official, CBS's David Letterman and Jay Leno are set to renew head-to-head competition at 11:35 p.m. EST on March 1 when Leno returns to "The Tonight Show" on NBC.
NBC and O'Brien agreed to a $45 million deal early Thursday morning, ending the late-night battle between O'Brien and Leno that had brewed for two weeks after the network announced it planned to cancel Leno's experiment in prime time.

The Leno-Letterman rematch comes at a time when their feud is in full bloom. Throughout the fallout with O'Brien, Letterman has regularly mocked Leno on "Late Show." He has called him "Big Jaw," done a high-pitched impression and said "vintage Jay" had been revealed.

Even though Letterman has said he "doesn't have a dog in this fight," his sympathies have clearly been with O'Brien. Letterman went through a similar situation when Leno stepped over him to succeed Johnny Carson on "Tonight."

Their squabble was memorably portrayed in the 1996 TV film "The Late Shift." In the past two weeks, Letterman has repeatedly referred to the details of that fallout — such as Leno eavesdropping on NBC executives by hiding in a closet.

After Leno landed "Tonight" in 1992, Letterman set up "Late Show" in 1993. Since then, the two have competed for 16 years, with Leno usually winning easily in the ratings.
Before the current mess, Letterman had seemed to have moved beyond any dislike of Leno. In a 2008 interview with Rolling Stone, he questioned NBC moving Leno out of late-night and said he "has greater appeal for more people than I do."

But clearly old wounds haven't healed, as Letterman's glee has shown.
"I'm telling jokes and making fun of Jay Leno over and over and over, relentlessly, mercilessly simply for one reason," Letterman said on Monday's show before pausing and smiling hugely: "I'm really enjoying it."

'Humiliated' Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer Sutherland suffered his "most humiliating moment" ever when he wore a dress on US TV on January 13. The "24" actor admitted to talk show host David Letterman that his green vintage ensemble was the result of losing a sports bet with a friend earlier in the week.

He said: "I lost a bet over the weekend. I was so sure New England was going to win, that I told a guy who used to be my friend that if New England lost, I would wear a dress on 'Letterman' And so, here I am."
When the host offered the 43-year-old star - who has previously spent time in prison for drink driving offenses - $1,000 to ride the subway in his green dress, cream t-shirt and combat boots, he replied: "Riding the subway would be easier. This I think may be the most humiliating moment of my life - and I've had a couple to choose from. Not looking really butch now, am I?"

Despite his shame, Sutherland - who apologized for embarrassing his family and friends with the outfit - admitted he bought the dress himself, much to the amusement of the sales assistant.
He explained: "You should have seen me shopping for this thing today.

"I walk into a store, and say 'I'm shopping for a big gal, kind of my size, pretty broad in the chest. Do you mind if I try it on?' Then she just said, 'Take it'. I got kind of nervous."

Diane Kruger need only look to beau Joshua Jackson for fashion advice.

"I don't really know what it is I'm looking at, but I know when it's not right," Jackson, 31, joked to UsMagazine.com at the BAFTA/LA 16th Annual Tea Party on Saturday.

"Honestly, I'm really not that helpful," he added.

"That's not true!" said Kruger, 33. "It's the greatest advice because you know how women can get, you know, that poufy look... and he's like, 'What are you wearing? It makes your butt look like it's as big as a house!'"

Quipped Jackson, "Yeah, like something just vomited on your body!"

"No, he's never that bad," continued Kruger.

Jackson had nothing to do with the pale, tea-length frock Kruger donned to the BAFTA event (shown at left).

"This one you were pretty clear about right from the beginning," Jackson remembered.

Best & Worst of the Globes: "Actors, They're Just Better Than Ordinary People"

Ricky Gervais Paul Drinkwater/NBC Universal, Inc via Getty Images

On a rainy night in Hollywood, the stars and their umbrella-holding minions braved the precipitation, which threatened hairdos, dresses and, jeez, the entire evening of entertainment kudos. But the 67th Golden Globes got going anyway.

Here's what was good...and not so good:

Best Cold Opening: Ricky Gervais started off a little slow with his by-now-regular tweaking of Steve Carell, but then he moved on to a new round of targets, the assembled stars, and the show started rolling. Here were some of our favorite opening quips:
  • "On a serious note, just looking at all the faces here reminds me of the great work that's been done this year, by cosmetic surgeons. You all look great."
  • "And I've had a penis reduction. Just got the one now. That's enough. And it is very tiny, but so are my hands, so when I'm holding it, it looks pretty big. And let's face it, I usually am holding it. I wish I was doing that now instead of this, to be honest."
  • "It is an honor to be here in a room full of what I consider to be the most important people on the planet. Actors, they're just better than ordinary people, aren't they?"
Best Change of Pace: Following Gervais is never easy, but Mo'Nique's passionate, intense acceptance speech immediately kicked the trophy-giving into high gear.

Best Feel-Good Moment: On a night when self-importance can run rampant, Up in the Air's Jason Reitman was refreshingly humble with a kind word for everyone, including his cast, his wife and his parents, and kind of made us love him for being such a mensch.

Fakest Feel-Good Moment: Gervais took a moment to get real: "The serious bit now. The Golden Globes is shown all over the world. It is oblivious to color or creed. It doesn't just celebrate talent, it celebrates difference. It crushes prejudice and stereotype. One stereotype I hate is that all Irishmen are just drunk, sweary hell-raisers. Please welcome Colin Farrell."

Best Save: After seeming to totally blank on her speech, Meryl Streep pulled it together for a touching speech about her mother. "She had no patience for gloom and doom. I'm not like that," said Streep, choking up as she remembered how her mother would tell her to be grateful for her success and use it to help others. "I am really grateful. I am really grateful."

Best or Worst: Drew Barrymore's breathless, rambling speech—did you love it or hate it?

Most Unexpected Dirty Joker: Enlivening what was otherwise a totally worthwhile if unsurprising celebration of the career of director Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro launched into an incredibly creeptastic impression of Scorsese getting aroused by a 35mm black-and-white film canister. Even after all those Focker films, it seems Travis Bickle is still lurking around inside there.

Best Introduction: Just when you thought Gervais had abandoned the idea of embarrassing the assembled, he delivered this intro while swilling a pint of beer: "I like a drink as much as the next man, unless the next man is Mel Gibson." Nice.

Most in Touch With the Audience: Avatar director James Cameron has directed the two biggest moneymakers of all time, but he understood what the crowd was thinking when he said he'd wrap things up quickly because he had to "pee something fierce." Two hours plus in, he wasn't the only one.

Best Flashback: Despite the fact that he was presenting the animation award, Paul McCartney managed to work in a delightfully inappropriate drug joke. And if you were high, the fact that Up won probably blew your mind.

Best Speech: Robert Downey Jr. announcing, "I don't have anybody to thank," before enumerating all the people he would not be thanking. "These guys, they needed me! Avatar was gonna take us to the cleaners. If they didn't have me they didn't have a shot, buddy!" He should get an award just for that.

Second-Best Speech: Though he slobbered over presenter Kate Winslet enough to nearly wrest the Inappropriate Award-Winner Kiss award away from Adrien Brody, Jeff Bridges pulled it together for a fine speech celebrating family and show business and, most winningly, his stand-in.

Worst Promotional Opportunity: NBC was hosting the party, but it bore the brunt of an awful lot of jokes about scripted and/or late-night programming. Is all of Hollywood on Team CoCo?

Family-Friendly Entertainment: From the speeches of Bridges, Streep and plenty of others, the night seemed to be a celebration of family. As themes go, that's a whole lot better than thanking your agent.
Who else did you love or hate or just wonder about during the show?

Mo'Nique at the Globes: "Stop Trying to Catch Me!"

Mo'Nique, who very much deserved her Best Supporting Actress win for Precious, was backstage, so I had to ask the outspoken actress on a few of the past year's big controversies.

I asked M, who portrays quite the abusive mother in Precious, her reaction to how Rihanna and Chris Brown both handled the unfortunate assault incident that happened back in February...

Rihanna is such a strong girl, how do you think she handled the incident staying mum for a while?
Everyone deals with it in their own way.

Do you personally wish she would have been more outspoken at the time?
Stop trying to catch me, baby!

Must applaud Mo'Nique's ability to be quite political when it comes to expressing too strong of opinions!
Again to our beloved Ri-Ri, thank you for finally speaking out about the abuse, you have no idea the relieved emails we've received of girls who look up to you.

Golden Globes Upsets Galore as Avatar, Hangover, Glee Score

The Hollywood Foreign Press was happy to open Pandora's box.

Avatar, James Cameron's years-in-the-making vision of the possibility of performance-capture technology, was named Best Motion Picture, Drama, at the 67th Annual Golden Globes, triumphing over the seemingly unstoppable Hurt Locker.

"We have the best job in the world, we really do," the filmmaker said in accepting Sunday's top prize. "I just want you to give it up for yourself. What we do is, we make entertainment for a global audience, and that's what the Golden Globes mean. Give it up for yourselves," he encouraged his fellow Hollywood players.

Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock, winners for Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, were prepared to do just that.

"Please don't let Ricky Gervais be right. Do I need to thank whoever bought this for me?" began Bullock, long America's sweetheart but never a critics' darling before starring in The Blind Side, referencing one of the host's opening jokes. "Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press, after all these years."

Bridges, too, joked about his sudden ascendance to the upper echelons since playing a washed-up country singer in Crazy Heart.

"You're really throwing my underappreciated status here," he mock-complained, before thanking his late dad, Lloyd Bridges, and mom for encouraging their kids to go into show business.

And while the critical favorite, Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow (aka the third Mrs. James Cameron), could still get the Oscar in the divorce, Cameron got the Globe.

"I'm absolutely not well-prepared," the filmmaker said after claiming his award from next-door neighbor Mel Gibson. "Frankly, I thought Kathryn was going to get this. She richly deserves it."

The on-again king of the world also thanked his performance-capture troop and visual production facility. "We're family, guys, whether you like it or not," he said.

Meanwhile, in another surprise, The Hangover was named Best Musical/Comedy, beating a field that included Nine, which came in with a whopping five nominations but was completely shut out.

Robert Downey Jr., winner for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, gave a shout-out to the mysterious team of journalists who comprise the Globe-giving Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

"Art in the blood is liable to take the strangest forms, said the Sherlock Holmes star, quoting Arthur Conan Doyle. "That is why I would like to thank also, or not thank, the HFP, because they are a strange bunch, and now I'm one of them."

But we're mainly glad he won because of this: "Thank who? [Producer] Joel Silver, the guy who's only restarted my career 12 times since I began 25 years ago? I mean, I really don't want to thank my wife, because I could be busing tables at the Daily Grill right now if not for her. Jeez, what a gig that'd be."

Meryl Streep didn't have to share with Bullock tonight, standing solo on the podium to accept Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy, for channeling Julia Child in Julie & Julia.

And Streep, no matter how many times she gets to go up there, always thinks of something apropos to say.

"I come to Golden Globes weekend and I am really honestly conflicted how to have my happy movie self in the face of everything that I'm aware of in the real world," she said after humorously informing everyone that she wants to change her name to T-Bone, as in Best Original Song winner Burnett, winner for Crazy Heart's theme song "The Weary Kind."

"And I want to say," Streep continued, "that's when I hear my mother's voice, saying, 'Give some cash to Partners in Health, put the dress on, put on a smile, and be damn grateful that you have the dollars to help and the next day, and the next day...' "

Mo'Nique, a comedian who's left audiences floored by her portrayal of an abusive mom in Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire, heads into the Oscar homestretch with a Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, which tends to be the category most hospitable to breakout performances overall.

"First, let me say, thank you, God, for this amazing ride that you're allowing me to go on," she said, ultimately concluding with the pointed message, "I celebrate this award with all the Preciouses and the Marys, with all the people who've ever been touched...It's now time to tell, and it's OK."

Also continuing his goosestep waltz toward Oscar was Austrian Christoph Waltz, who's been the subject of Oscar buzz since Cannes and tonight was a Best Supporting Actor winner for playing Nazi nut Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds.

Quentin Tarantino, who lost Best Screenplay to Up in the Air scribes Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner, finally had a reason to smile.

On the tube side, the Hollywood Foreign Press didn't waver from their stance that Mad Men is the best TV show ever, awarding the series its second straight Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Drama.

But instead of sticking with 30 Rock, too, the HFP was instead charmed by Fox's new musical show, Glee, which was named Best TV Series, Comedy.

"'This show is about a lot of things," gleeful cocreator Ryan Murphy said. "It's about the importance of arts education, and this is for anybody and everybody who got a wedgie in high school."

Very appreciative of Mo'Nique's message was screen veteran and acceptance-speech newcomer Drew Barrymore, who snagged the Globe for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Grey Gardens.

"I've been meeting with the Hollywood Foreign Press for, like, 97 years and I've been in this room since I was 7 years old," the charmingly befuddled and self-deprecating thesp said in appreciation. "I could be Jeff Spicoli's girlfriend with the lisp and the paralysis, so thank you for taking a chance on me...I have grown up here and I would like to say that this is for all the people nice enough to love me and wish the best for me along the way."

Other first-time winners despite their incredibly familiar faces include ChloΓ« Sevigny, a Best Supporting Actress winner for Big Love, and Kevin Bacon, Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Taking Chance.

Michael C. Hall Steve Granitz/Getty Images

Another subtle yet poignant Moment was Michael C. Hall's win for Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama, which comes amid the news that he was simultaneously shooting Dexter's fourth season and receiving cancer treatment.

"It's really a hell of a thing to go to work at a place where everyone gives a damn," a smooth-faced Hall, wearing a black head wrap over his bald pate, said upon accepting his first Globe in four nominations. "This is a dream job, and I am so grateful."

It was an emotional moment for the whole Dexter clan, including a teary John Lithgow, earlier a winner for Best Supporting Actor in any TV genre whatsoever (there's only one supporting win per sex at the Globes). He said he had a great time "creeping out America for six months" as the gruesome Trinity Killer.

Showtime reached its own personal best with three statues tonight, including United States of Tara star Toni Collette's win for Best Actress in a TV Comedy. Though, of course, HBO was the top network with four wins, as tends to be the case.

Julianna Margulies, star of CBS hit The Good Wife, beat out Emmy winner Glenn Close and defending champ Anna Paquin for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama.

Ricky Gervais Paul Drinkwater/NBC Universal, Inc via Getty Images

First-time Globe host Ricky Gervais came out firing, with even his introduction being an exercise in comedic timing as the camera swung between him and a stone-faced Steve Carell, who pretended (we assume) to seethe as Gervais reminded everyone that he created The Office. (And urged everyone to pick up the two-season series on DVD. "Quality, not quantity, that's what counts," he boasted.)

"All right, I better get on with it before they replace me with Jay Leno," Gervais quipped.

Whether it was Gervais' golden touch or not, the Globes' entire writing staff seemed to have kicked it up a notch this year.

Paul McCartney got two gems in ("Hello, I'm Paul McCartney, or as I'm now known, 'that guy from Rock Band,' " and "Animation is not just for children. It's also for adults who take drugs") before presenting the Best Animated Feature Film award to Up, which despite the late buzz surrounding Fantastic Mr. Fox still looks to be the front-runner for Oscar gold in the animated category, if it's not an overall Best Picture nominee.

"By any measure, a substantial move up," Tom Hanks described Meryl Streep's chance to bed Stanley Tucci in Julie & Julia as opposed to Alec Baldwin in It's Complicated.

In comparing himself and Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient Martin Scorsese to an old married couple," Robert De Niro explained, "We built a life together. We have great memories. We just don't sleep together anymore."

"I've collaborated with a lot of people," Scorsese said during his signaturely rapid-fire acceptance. "Many of them are here tonight, and I want to thank them all—but not individually. That would make this show longer than the Globes and the Oscars put together."
