Dancing inmates get ad offer, but Cebu gov thumbs it down

Not just the long-time choreographer of King of Pop Michael Jackson was drawn to the dancing inmates of Cebu.
Amid their online fame, the detainees of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) have received a P250,000 offer to endorse a detergent product, according to report by Radio dzBB’s Cebu affiliate.

But the report said Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was not keen on “commercializing" the inmates, who first became popular in cyberspace after videos of their dance numbers landed on sharing site YouTube.
The report quoted Garcia as saying that she did not want the inmates' image "cheapened."

She, however, clarified that she does not object to the inmates being featured in documentary programs on television.GMANews.TV tried to reach Governor Garcia and her brother, Byron, who runs the penitentiary and who also serves as the provincial government’s consultant on security.

Last January, Jackson’s choreographer Travis Payne visited the CPDRC and taught the inmates “The Drill," the last choreography Payne and Jackson collaborated on before the King of Pop died in June 2009.
The number was included in the DVD and Blu-Ray copies of the Jackson documentary, "This Is It."

Charlie Sheen's wife out of hospital

LOS ANGELES - Charlie Sheen's wife, Brooke, has left a hospital after a week of treatment for an infection after oral surgery.

Her lawyer, Yale Galanter, says she was released Monday night with orders to rest for the next week.
He says the star of the TV sitcom "Two And A Half Men" visited his wife in the hospital but now that she is out, the court order keeping them from contacting each other remains in full effect.


The Sheens have a Feb. 8 court date in Aspen in the aftermath of a domestic violence incident that brought police to their Colorado home on Christmas Day.
Galanter says they will ask for modification of the no-contact order. Sheen is also set for arraignment that day on domestic violence charges.

Johnny Depp no more, claims website

The year 2009 has seen many celebrity-death rumours and the 2010 too began with the demise of the 'Sexiest Man Alive', Johnny Depp.


Actor Johnny Depp, star of The Pirates of The Caribbean died in a fatal car accident on March 25, 2004. Something is out place here? Yes! The news is a hoax. The dateline is incorrect and the web site that presented it, created a spurious web page of CNN to post it.

Yet the rumours of Depp's death clouded the Internet and news of this fatal accident tweeted and fans mourned his death on many networking sites. But so much for logic… who was acting in the 2006 flicks The Pirates… if Depp died in 2004?

According to reports, a website angelfire.com made a fake web page of CNN News that reveals that Johnny Depp is dead. As per the fraud website "Johnny Depp's car was found alongside a road outside Bordeaux, France, with the guard rail embedded deep inside the car." Images of car wreckage were also posted with the news.


The website claimed that CNN's Melissa Gray and Harris Whitback wrote this report - but there are many obvious clues that they didn't. It may be noted that the dateline of fraud web page was March 25, 2004. Also, right after it said 'alcohol' caused the incident, there was a story below about British explorers who escaped from caves in Mexico, which nowhere linked to the story above!

Now, truth be told Depp did not die in a car accident … he is alive and kicking! The news about Depp's death are mere rumours. God knows what will happen to the web site thated post this fraud? But it has got its share of clicks for a day.

YouTube Takes a Small Step Into the Film Rental Market

YouTube made its long-awaited entry on Wednesday into the business of online movie rentals. But do not expect to be able to stream to your PC the latest Hollywood blockbuster or even a flick from a studio’s dusty catalog of classics. YouTube, which is owned by Google, is introducing its rental service with just five movies, all from independent filmmakers.

By comparison, Netflix gives its customers the choice of thousands of films, and most cable operators offer their customers large catalogs of on-demand films. More movies will come to the YouTube service later, but the company did not say when or what films it may offer.

Still, YouTube’s decision to dip its toes in online rentals represents a significant, if expected, shift for the online video site. YouTube has thrived by offering an eclectic collection of free video clips and earns most of its revenue from advertising. YouTube already offers some older, full-length movies on its site free.
Last summer, YouTube held discussions with major studios, including Lionsgate Entertainment, Sony and Warner Brothers, in an attempt to obtain newer offerings for a planned rental service. In the fall, YouTube conducted a test of the rental service with some content from studios, but the test was available only to Google employees, according to two people with knowledge of the test who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

YouTube declined to confirm the talks with studios or the test.
A studio executive, who also could not speak publicly, said that Hollywood was always concerned about cannibalizing existing distribution deals. But the executive said that his company would be willing to make some movies available for rental on YouTube on terms similar to those available to services like Apple’s iTunes, Netflix or cable operators.

Some analysts have questioned whether Hollywood movies would appeal to most of the audience at YouTube, which is better known for its broad selection of short clips.
YouTube is unveiling the rental service in conjunction with the start of the Sundance Film Festival. All five films offered for rent on YouTube are part of the festival this year or were shown at the event last year.

“YouTube had a very close relationship with the independent film community since we launched,” said Sara Pollack, entertainment market manager for YouTube. Ms. Pollack said that the number of people watching videos online has grown quickly and that YouTube wanted “to offer a way for filmmakers to connect with these audiences.”
Ms. Pollack said that only a tiny fraction of the films submitted at Sundance were able to find some form of commercial distribution, and that YouTube would provide a new outlet for independent filmmakers.

Mother Of MTV 'Teen Mom' Star Arrested

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Debra Danielson has been arrested for allegedly hitting her daughter Farrah Abraham, a star of MTV's ""Teen Mom," Iowa's Daily Nonpareil reported.

According to the newspaper, Debra, 54, was arrested by Council Bluff's police on suspicion of domestic abuse/serious assault after she allegedly choked and hit her 18-year-old daughter on Saturday.

Police visited the address where both women live after a report of a domestic disturbance was made.
The two women were reportedly arguing over childcare issues and other "problems."


According to the paper, Danielson allegedly threw an MTV shirt at her daughter. The shirt reportedly landed near Abraham's baby and that prompted the teen to yell at her mother.
At that time, Danielson reportedly grabbed her daughter by the throat, the paper reported.
Abraham also claims her mother hit her on the right side of her face. Officers saw "multiple cuts" on Abrahams face, the paper noted.
